Karen Ostad

Karen Ostad, Esquire, has 24 years of experience as a seasoned business reorganization partner of major international law firms including Morrison & Foerster LLP and Lovells LLP. Karen is the founder and managing director of GlobeAdvise LLC. She has represented significant stakeholders in restructurings, mergers, and acquisitions, primarily involving financially distressed or emerging market companies.

Karen’s global experience has involved many industries, including hedge funds, insurance companies, financial institutions, telecommunications, energy, mining, automotive, aviation, patents and technology, healthcare, real estate, retail and other goods and services.

Karen has been an active strategist in handling a wide range of business‐critical issues, including understanding cash flow and operations, arranging “rescue” financing, managing cross‐border acquisitions and divestitures, and interfacing with auditors, regulators, investment bankers, and others. Her experience has involved understanding the cultural, operational, and legal aspects of her clients’ businesses, and taking complex situations and devising clear yet flexible strategies to achieve optimal results.

Karen regularly advises boards of public and private for‐profit companies, including special committees of independent directors; served as a member of numerous official creditors’ committees, and advised bank and bondholder committees and other governance boards. Her services have involved implementing strategies to comply with federal laws including Sarbanes‐Oxley, TARP, and Dodd‐Frank.

Karen received her B.A. in journalism from New York University; and her J.D. from New York Law School. She is a member of the New York City Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, 85 Broads (an exclusive global women's network with members from 82 countries around the world), and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
